Unit Project
~Social Commentary
OVERVIEW
In this unit, we have explored the work of artists who have expressed their opinions through their artwork. Now, it is your chance to design an artwork that will express your opinion on a social issue.
SCENARIO
Mrs. Pennypacker is an old woman who loves the Arts! She wants to give a million dollars (+ a candy bar & some extra credit) to an artist so he/she can create an artwork that will persuade people about a social issue. YOU just happened to be an artist who needs a million dollars to create an artwork about a social issue. You are going to prepare a proposal to present to Mrs. Pennypacker with the hopes that you will win her award.
REAL WORLD CONNECTION
At some point in your life, you will need to give a proposal presentation. You will need to seek money, approval, sponsorship from someone. The steps below outline the basic process of a proposal and can be adapted for any situation.
DIRECTIONS
Step 1
Step 1
- Choose your issue from the list below.
- Research your issue. You must find at least 3 different (credible) sources and cite a fact from each one.
- Record the information on the worksheet packet.
- Analyze artwork already created about your issue by other artists.
- Find at least two artworks pertaining to your issue (see SoCom - Artworks tab) and analyze them.
- Record your work on the worksheet packet.
- Come up with an idea for an original artwork. (You won't actually make the artwork, so BE CREATIVE! You imagination is your only limit. You can "create" any genre of art: VA, music, theater, dance, literature.)
- Use the worksheet packet to record your ideas and guide your thinking.
- Use the information you have recorded on the worksheet packet to prepare a proposal which you will present to the class. Your proposal must have all of the information outlined on your packet PLUS a visual aid(s). You may present live or pre-record your presentation. You must be prepared to answer questions regarding your proposal regardless of how you present it.
