How to take notes
Most often when students take notes, they simply copy what the teacher has on the board, then tune out. No wonder your notes don't make sense when you try to study! No wonder you give up on studying! You have not taken notes; you have simply made a copy.
Taking notes means that you are LISTENING to what the teacher is saying. Your are hearing what you and your classmates are adding to the discussion. In addition to listening, you should READ what the teacher has on the board or the Power Point. Then, most importantly, PROCESS what you have just LISTENED to and READ then PARAPHRASE (put in your own words) the important bits. That way, when you reference your notes, they will make sense to you because you are reminding yourself about the concept in your own words. |
